Southern Region Officers
Tammie McCoy joined the Pontotoc Woman’s Club (MS) in 1997, and has served as an officer for her club, district, and state. She has been a member of the GFWC Mississippi board since 2000 and the GFWC board since 2010. Currently Tammie is serving as GFWC Mississippi Finance Committee Chairman, Southern Region Secretary, and GFWC Bylaws Committee Member. Tammie loves volunteering in her state and beyond. Her passion is to assist others, supporting health, literacy, education, food insecurities, advocacy, and safety. Tammie loves living the volunteer spirit and realizes that through the work of GFWC, we can experience great unity in our diversity.
Shari Carter began her GFWC club work in 1979 when she joined the GFWC Stone Mountain Woman’s Club in Georgia. She has since held many leadership roles including Club President, District President, 2010-2012 State President, and many GFWC Board of Directors positions. Currently, she serves as her Club, District, and State Parliamentary Advisor, GFWC Southern Region Treasurer and a member of the GFWC Strategic Planning Committee. She has enjoyed developing leadership skills through her association with GFWC, and making a difference in her community.
Outside of GFWC club work, Shari enjoys playing tennis, walking, attending her local Bible Study, and watching her grandsons play baseball. She has been married to Steve Carter for 45 years.
Roberta Atkinson is a member of GFWC Shades Mountain Woman’s Club. She served as GFWC Alabama President from 2012-14. She served on the GFWC BOD on the Elections committee 2014-16. She served as the GFWC Alabama Parliamentary Advisor for 2020-24.
Roberta has been married to James for 56 years and has two children and six grandchildren. She retired from the Hoover Public Library.
Sharon Oliphant has been a dedicated federated clubwoman for 37 years. She has held numerous leadership positions at the district, state, and international levels of GFWC. Serving as GFWC Florida President (2018–2020) was both an honor and a privilege, deepening her appreciation for the incredible volunteers who make our organization thrive.
Sharon is a proud member of GFWC Williston Woman's Club, GFWC Girls on Fire, and the Grapevine Parliamentarian Club. She currently serves on the GFWC Resolutions Committee.
Sharon is a native Floridian born in Jacksonville. She and Tom, married for 43 years, are the proud "Mimi" and "Pop" to four wonderful grandchildren.
Cynthia Geis began her Federation journey in 1990 with the GFWC Heritage Junior Woman’s Club in Huntsville, Alabama. Since joining the GFWC Alabama Board of Directors in 1994, she has served in nearly every elected office, including Alabama Director of Junior Clubs (1998-2000) and GFWC Alabama President (2010-2012). She has served in all Southern Region elected offices, including President (2020-2022). Cynthia is a member of GFWC Legacy, three GFWC state clubs, four GFWC national clubs, and GFWC-AL du Midi Woman's Club, where she serves as Treasurer.
Cynthia passed the National Association of Parliamentarians membership exam in 1998 and now serves as a member-at-large of the Alabama State Association of Parliamentarians. Cynthia retired from the Department of Defense in 2018 after 39.5 years of service. She and Gregg have been married for 50 years. Their son, Geoff, lives in Chicago with his son, Finn.
